What Are Diamond-Cut Alloy Wheels?
Diamond-cut wheels are standard alloy wheels that undergo a specialist CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machining process. After the wheel is powder-coated with a base colour, the surface of the wheel face is precisely “cut” with a diamond-tipped lathe, shaving away a thin layer of metal to reveal a bright, polished aluminium finish.
The result is a striking two-tone contrast — the glossy silver metal face against a darker painted background — creating a premium, eye-catching appearance that’s popular on high-end and performance vehicles.
Our Diamond Cutting Process
At Optimum Wheels, we use state-of-the-art CNC machinery and professional refinishing techniques to restore or enhance your wheels to the highest standard. Here’s how the process works:
Wheel Preparation: The wheel is stripped, cleaned, and inspected for damage. Any cracks or kerb marks are repaired.
Powder Coat Primer: A durable primer layer is applied and baked, forming a protective base.
Base Colour Application: A powder coat colour (usually black, grey, or anthracite) is applied to give the background tone.
Diamond Cutting: The wheel face is precisely skimmed using a diamond-tipped CNC lathe, exposing bare aluminium and creating a bright, reflective finish.
Clear Powder Coat: Finally, a clear powder lacquer is applied over the entire wheel to seal the surface, prevent corrosion, and maintain shine.
Important to Know
Because diamond cutting involves removing a very thin layer of metal, most alloy wheels can only be diamond cut two to three times before the structure becomes too thin. Our experts will inspect your wheels and advise whether diamond cutting is suitable during your consultation.
